How to print a 4×6 shipping label from your iPhone or iPad
Selling apps make it easy to buy a label on your phone, but printing it is another story. The file is often a letter-size page, and iPhone and iPad can only print to printers that support AirPrint.
What you need
- An AirPrint-capable label printer. Many 4×6 thermal printers connect only by USB. Those can't print from an iPhone directly unless they're shared on your network through an AirPrint-capable print server, or you choose a model with Wi-Fi and AirPrint.
- The label as a PDF or image, saved to Files, open in Safari, or attached to an email.
Printing it
- Open the label and tap the Share button.
- If the label is already 4×6, choose Print, pick your label printer and a 4×6 paper size, and print.
- If it's a letter-size page, printing it directly gives you a tiny label. Crop it to the label first (see why labels print too small), or use an app that does it for you.
With Label Magic
Share the label to Label Magic from Mail, Safari or Files. It finds the label on the page, crops it to 4×6, turns it upright if needed, and prints to your AirPrint label printer at the right size, with no settings to fiddle with.
